Being a recent Cisco certified associate, I have a pretty solid understanding of routing and switching technology. The podcast located at http://podcasts.howstuffworks.com/hsw/podcasts/techstuff/2011-08-08-techstuff-routers.mp3 goes over some basic networking information such as the OSI model, NAT (network address translation), and even the basic structure of a packet.
They don't go into too much depth but, they give a high level overview of routing protocols such as RIP and OSPF and the reasons for a routing table. They talk about the different types of connections such as Ethernet and wireless. They even go into some information on firewalls and how they can protect webpages from DDOS attacks.
The average person who doesn't understand how information flows over a network or on the internet will be able to walk away from the podcast with a better understanding of the complexity of networking and routing packets based on costs, protocols and metrics.
All in all the gentlemen doing the podcast seem knowledgeable and really try to explain the different technologies in an easy to understand way.
